We are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a fast-growing and ambitious accountancy practice that supports limited companies, sole traders, property investors, charities and business owners across the UK and internationally.

Due to continued growth and an expanding client portfolio, they are looking for an experienced Senior Practice Accountant to join their established team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practice accountant who enjoys taking ownership of client work, mentoring colleagues and contributing to the success of a growing business. You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality accounts and tax services while helping to maintain the firm's excellent reputation for client service.

The Role

As a Senior Practice Accountant, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and to the highest professional standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking client records from bookkeeping stage through to final accounts and statutory filing
  • Preparing and finalising year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and small businesses
  • Preparing, reviewing and filing corporation tax computations and CT600 returns
  • Reviewing bookkeeping completed by junior team members and providing guidance where required
  • Reviewing VAT balances, payroll journals, director's loan accounts, fixed assets, hire purchase agreements, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
  • Using HMRC online services and Companies House filing systems
  • Ensuring client files are complete, accurate and ready for submission
  • Liaising with the administration team to obtain outstanding client information
  • Supporting and mentoring junior bookkeepers and accounts staff
  • Assisting the CEO with technical reviews, client work and practice management when required

About You

We're looking for someone who can confidently hit the ground running and work independently within a busy practice environment.

You'll have:

  • Significant UK accountancy practice experience (Essential)
  • Previous experience in a Senior Practice Accountant or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of preparing and filing statutory accounts and corporation tax returns
  • Excellent working knowledge of Xero (Essential)
  • The ability to manage multiple client deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior team members
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Qualifications

Applications are welcomed from candidates who are:

  • ACCA or ACA qualified (preferred), or
  • Qualified through another recognised accountancy body such as IFA, AIA or AAT, or
  • Qualified by experience with a strong background in UK accountancy practice.

Experience with Sage, QuickBooks or FreeAgent would be advantageous but is not essential.
